Special Interest Symposia

In addition to the traditional President’s Symposium and Students’ Symposium, members are encouraged to organize symposia on a topic of special interest. If you are interested in organizing such a symposium, please contact the Scientific Program Officers by March 2, 2020. Because space in the program is limited, requests will be considered on a first come, first serve basis.


The Local Organizing Committee has arranged four workshops. Please indicate your interest in workshop participation when you register for the meeting. Workshops were developed with graduate student and post-doc participants in mind, but are open to all registered meeting participants, free of charge. Each workshop will accommodate up to 25 individuals. More detailed information is available below.

Workshop Session I
Wednesday, July 15, 2020

  • Workshop 1: 2:30–5:00 pm
    A practical introduction to generating genomic data using the Oxford Nanopore MinION sequencing platform
    (Organizers: Dr. Joseph Fauver, Yale University & Dr. R. Clopton, Peru State College)


  • Workshop 2: 5:00–6:30 pm
    Introducing software to explore factors shaping parasite-host associations
    (Organizers: Dr. M. Holder, University of Kansas & Dr. J. Sukumaran, San Diego State University)

  • Workshop 3: 9:00–10:30 am
    Designing and formatting scientific graphics for publication
    (Organizers: Dr. R. Clopton, JP Editor, Peru State College & Dr. J. Cielocha, JP Graphics Editor, Rockhurst University)

  • Workshop 4: 10:30–12:00 pm
    Writing an effective diversity statement
    (Organizer: Dr. K. Colyott, University of Kansas)
